Learn to include what you enjoy without your money slipping away every month. I'll share what has really worked for me.
Look, we all need to treat ourselves once in a while. The problem isn't the treat itself, but when it becomes automatic and then there's nothing left for what really matters.
## Why it's hard to separate treats from impulsive spending
The truth is many of us mix up "I deserve this" with buying whatever crosses our path. What has worked for me is defining beforehand what a treat means to me.
### Distinguish between reward and habit
A treat can be a special coffee once a week. A habit would be buying it every day without thinking. The difference is in the intention.
## How to include treats in your budget without losing control
The trick is to assign them a fixed amount from the start. I separate 10% of my income for "intentional spending."
### Create a specific category
Call it "Treats" or "Personal enjoyment." Once the money is set aside, you no longer feel guilty using it.
## Real examples you can apply right now
If you like eating out, pick one fixed day a month and a spending limit. If you like clothes, wait for sales and only use that category.
## Before you close this tab
If you always end the month feeling you overspent on things you don't even remember, it's not that you're weak. It's that you never defined what place treats have in your real life.
*The best budget is the one that lets you enjoy without leaving you with nothing for the next month.*
